It was rare

I remember it all too well

Day 1 – Favorite Song: State of Grace
Taylor Swift Birthday Week, Day 1: Favorite song:
New Year’s Day is my favorite Taylor Swift song because it is the first one I feel like I can fully relate to on a happy note without exaggerating or creating a fantasy in my head. I know a lot of fans say they’ve always been able to relate to Taylor, but for me the reason I’ve always loved Taylor wasn’t because I could 100% relate to her songs– it was because her songs provided me an outlet to pretend that I had the live I always wanted. Her songs had previously given me a way to escape from my cruel reality and go straight into a blissful daydream, no matter how things got. New Years Day is the first happy Taylor Swift song that I relate to completely on my own terms and no one else’s. I don’t relate to it because I was once a scared freshman in high school or because I really love my family like the songs Fifteen or The Best Day depict for many fans. I relate to New Years Day on a deeper, noncliche level through events, people, and feelings I have had in my life that don’t make me sad, and that is what makes it so special. I’ve been a Taylor fan for more than a decade now, and the feelings I feel towards New Years Day aren’t like any feelings I’ve ever felt toward a song– and it’s magical.
