Gucci Spring 2020

If you were around when I first published my then-TS70s predictions post you know that I had hoped that what we came to know as Lover would be filled with looks just like this: A nod to 70s style, with doses of brown and suede but made modern. In fact, a direct quote:

“Fringe, but tempered with metallic heels. Suede, paired with OTK boots.”

Delighted to see this presented right on the money, courtesy of Gucci. I know many say this often, but I typically refrain from this phrase. However, it couldn’t be more fitting here that Taylor really jazzes up this runway look. The skinny belt, hair, and jewels plus that burnt terracotta background is perfection.

And that zing of green makes my heart sing.

Gucci Resort 2020 jacket and shirt

Rolling Stone said “Blondes In Yellow™” and Taylor Swift Style said hell yeah.

In one of her deepest cutting interviews in years, Taylor graced the cover of RS wearing a sunny, vibrant bow-accented look from Gucci’s latest runway. I have to say that I much prefer the fun take that makeup artist Andrew Gallimore took for this yellow look over the more moody original presentation on the Gucci runway.

This is also one of two yellow looks in the entire spread and continues to add to the Blondes In Yellow™ looks that we’ve been presented with this era. A part of me wonders if part of it is an intentional shoutout on Taylor’s part to the album-name-that-could-have-been for Lover and a symbolic representation of the daylight and golden sunshine she basks her life in now. It’s a comforting thought.

Gucci ‘Double Breasted Checked Floral Embroidered Blazer Jacket’ – $5,555.00 (sold out)

This outfit will undoubtedly find a place in my annual Favourite Outfits Of the Year list – so I was incredibly delighted to finally track down the check blazer she wears here: a sadly sold out Gucci piece. What’s even sadder is that we never got a look at the reverse of the blazer which includes a beautiful surprise fully embroidered floral back!

Personally finding myself loving everything about this outfit as it employs many tactics I (bias) work into my own wardrobe. I love a professional-looking ensemble to always have a bit of bite and to include a mixture of textures and materials. A slightly oversized menswear-like blazer is edged up significantly by a burgundy leather skirt. The play of colours here is distinctly fall and equal parts smoking and professional. 11/10, thank you.

If you’ve been a TSS follower for any length of time, you know that I kind of have an obnoxious love of Taylor in green. I loved the emphasis on colour throughout the video to block off different scenes and how it was layered in her ensembles, respectively in addition to her beauty look (the green tips and disco green makeup doesn’t escape me).

I’m intrigued by her incredibly specific body position here as well as the guitar and the overall colour palette of the room. It gave me incredibly vivid flashbacks to when she was crying on this select instrument in nearly the same position. Except here, she’s creating the music about a love that she had only dreamed of when she had first spilled those tears in that fated music video so many years ago. Here, she’s leaning on that love her music is now solidly built upon. The similarity between those two respective makeup looks (a smoked out green shadow) also doesn’t escape me and only adds to the intrigue.

Gucci ‘Jordaan Tweed Loafer’ – $730.00

I am intrigued by both the contrasting pattern play (tweed + butterfly print) as well as added texture from these tweed Gucci loafers. I do, however, appreciate the Gucci flex.
